My Lunch Break

Okay, I think you need to hear this. It somehow sums up life in Hawaii. Or maybe just life.

So I've been freezing all day because I had to wear a skirt since all of my jeans are dirty, and I didn't even think to bring a sweater or jacket over my tank top. I step out for lunch and am shocked to discover it's cold outside. In Hawaii! And just as I'm standing at the corner and spacing out, it starts to rain. Cold rain. So I'm looking up at the sky like an idiot when someone I know drives by and yells "Jenni!" Great, I'm shivering cold, totally zoned out and looking up at the sky.

I eventually make it to my favorite lunch place where it's clear the lady at the counter knows I come every week. She almost remembered my order. It's actually mellow in there so I decided to eat there and take some time to myself. I turn around and discover our freelance copywriter. A nice enough guy but not someone I'd choose to eat lunch with. So much for the time to myself, now I need to make small talk. He tells me about his other part-time gig which is doing psychic readings at a metaphysical store or something. So I ask him all about that and how he learned he was psychic and all the time I'm worried he can read my mind and knows that I'm not really comfortable. And what else could he know about me?!

We end up talking about settling into Hawaii, our ideas for odd jobs and products to invent, and other random things as if we're long time friends. But he's psychic so maybe we are...

As we're walking back to work we encounter a little Asian man doing his own karaoke show with a boombox and a little TV. And he's bad, very bad.
