SPF: Rainbows

Back on the SPF game because this one was too easy to pass up. Kristine at Random and Odd asked to see rainbows. We have plenty of those around here!

This one was taken on our anniversary picnic overlooking Diamond Head beach.

And let me tell you, I could really use a rainbow about now. I'm in a total funk about paddling. It's messing with my emotions!! And grrr, it's irritating me that I let it affect me this much. Plus, my shoulders and neck are just killing me right now. Paddling - painful inside and out right now...

SPF: Back

Well, I'm back in the game, sharing random pics in the spirit of SPF. This week's theme is "Back".

Here's a picture of my paddling back. It's sort of triangle shaped because my shoulders are getting HUGE. My co-worker commented that I've gotten "stacked" since I started working here. And some of my shirts don't fit anymore. It's an odd sort of growth I'm not always comfortable with but I am proud of.

SPF: Stuff That's Jenni

Well, this week's SPF assignment is to share "stuff" that represents me. And I'd like to dedicate this one to Kim who misses the Jenni who liked sparkly things and fancy shoes. That Jenni has not gone very far, and has in no way been compromised by the swimming and paddling Jenni. So with all that in mind, I present to you my most recent object of desire.

These are Chinese Laundry shoes that are currently on sale at Macy's. I have a pair on hold and if they still have them tomorrow, they are ALL MINE. They are tacky, the complete opposite of practical, and make me ridiculously happy. If you can't tell by the picture, they are a metallic sort of teal and gold snake skin print. Awwww yeah! And they have the most obnoxious plastic blue rhinestone on the front. Bryan thinks they are the most bizarre shoe in the world. But I mantain they will look stunning with jeans and summery skirts.

Shoes have been special to me since my early years. My mom can tell you stories about one of my first pair of shoes when I kept looking at my feet and saying "pretty" or how in kindergarten my class used to sing a song and skip around the room when anyone had new shoes. I promise you once my feet are at home in these bejeweled teal snakeskin delights, I will skip around and declare them pretty.

SPF: Behind, Two

This is a two-birds-with-one-stone sort of SFP posting. I missed last week's assignment which was "two". And I had a good one for it! This week's assignment is "behind."

Since I am behind in doing last week's assignment, I thought I'd deliver an image for "two".

We have exactly two wine glasses two our names. I insisted we buy them on one of our early house-stocking shopping expeditions at Wal-Mart. We don't really need more than two wine glasses until it comes to hosting a party... Then it's just embarassing!

SPF: Letters

This week Kristine at Random and Odd asks us to show our letters.

As a former sorority girl, I can only take this request literally - and show my letters. Since I'm no longer really a sorority girl, three deltas won't suffice. Instead I searched the vast internet for almost an hour looking for a picture of a t-shirt that I love. It's red, and I believe it's made by Quiksilver. It has a giant H and I on the front that looks like is spells "hi" but, of course, it does not. It instead is HI for Hawaii.

I couldn't find that t-shirt for anything. So I present to you this meager replacement:

And now, for more letter fun.... Before I was represented with HI, I was this:

And before SF, I was this:

They are all still my home.

SPF: Leftovers

This week Kristine over at Random and Odd encourages us to post pictures of our leftovers.

I didn't get the assignment until this morning. If I'd checked in earlier while I was at home I could have posted pictures of our leftover recycling we haven't turned in yet, or the leftover laundry I haven't put away, or the leftover sand that always appears on our floor. Oooh boy, that would have been fun for you to see, right?

Anyhow, lucky you, I decided to share the leftover pictures that haven't made it on the blog yet. We take a bunch of pictures. Usually of the two of us and almost all of those somehow make it to the blog. However, every once in a while a few pictures are just random, or odd, (see what I did there?) and don't really fit within a blog theme. And these are those pictures:

SPF: FREE

This week's SPF is "FREE!"

In Hawaii my toes are free, even in the winter.

SPF: Something Red

This week's theme is something red. I laughed as I looked around our place last night and realized EVERYTHING is red! We have a red couch, a red rattan chair thing, a red bedspread, red towels, red flower pot, red mixing bowls (they're new!), even a red wisk (it matches the bowls!). But those all seemed too easy and I didn't feel like cleaning up to take a picture of any of them.

So I present you this something red.

I ate McDonalds for dinner last night and feel very, very guilty. It was late, I was tired and we had nothing even close to a meal in our house. So now I feel guilty and fat.

Oh joy, I'm fat and too lazy to clean my house. I'm glad you know that about me.

SPF: Buttons

"Loosen up my button baby, but you keep fronting..."

Today's SPF theme is buttons. This is a picture of the type of buttons on my newest shirt. There's a story with it. For Christmas my mom gifted me a very nice shirt from Bebe that is beautiful but just isn't me. So I decided to return it. They wouldn't give me the money and would only let me exchange it. Now, there's a ton of cute stuff in Bebe so I wasn't worried. I loaded up my arms with shirts, skirts and pants and tried them all one. Only one shirt was even close to acceptable. It is a white, sheer cotton blouse with adorable white plastic buttons exactly like the one above. It's very cute and makes me very happy. However, a lesson to all you girls with wide shoulders and short legs, Bebe clothes are not for us. Anyhow, I meant to take a picture of the buttons on the shirt I got but my camera battery died. The one above is courtesy of Google images.

SPF

Again, I attempt to do SPF every week as a structure to share pictures and stories of our Hawaii life.

1. Something that makes you go hmmmm...
I'll tell you what makes me go hmmmm.... WILD CHICKENS! What the %$*@! Why are they here? Why are they wild? Why so many on Kauai and some on the North Shore? These are the chickens we encountered on our camping trip. And I saw many more this week on Kauai.

2. Something sweet
Bryan!

3. Something retro
Weak, I know. But this is all I could find retro. This is a picture of some of the Beach Boy paddlers in the 70's.

This SFP Stuff is Hard

Okay, another Stuff Portrait Friday...

1. Something you seize
2. Something you shake
3. Something purple

Seize

We'll, as cheesy as it sounds, Bryan and I try to seize every day here in Hawaii. Knowing this probably isn't forever, we try to get to the beach every weekend, see new sights and live in the moment. Lately work has been getting in the way of that. Damn work!

I also occasionally seize the can of bug killer when a see a roach. But I'm worried if I continue to talk about roaches you will think we're living in a hovel and feel sad for us. We're not. We have a nice and clean place, the roaches are just an evil reality of Hawaii. Damn roaches!

Shake

We shake a lot of things but I'm certain the thing that gets the most shaking is the sunscreen. We are self-proclaimed sunscreen adicts. That's how we keep our mainland pale in this constant sunshine (that and the 9-5 damn work). We're probably on our 10th can of sunscreen in almost as many months. And we'll keep shaking them.

Purple

Purple is the orchid in this lei I got my friend Karen for her 40th birthday.

On a very related note, my camera is on its last legs. Once a source of pure joy for me, it is now causing me serious stress as it makes a clicking sound every time I use it and progressively takes worse and worse images. Please send positive camera vibes to my weak and suffering Canon and hope that it lasts until Christmas. Or no more pictures on the blog!

SPF

Happy Friday! This week's theme is supposedly easy, although I didn't really think so. We're asked to show The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Sticking with the blog theme of "Aloha Adventure" I thought I better show you what's good, bad and ugly about living in Hawaii.

The Good.
Hello? We're in Hawaii. That's what's good. Sometimes it's like we're living in a postcard.

The Bad.
Being far from our friends. Pretty bad.

The Ugly.
The bleep-ing freeway system here. It's the worst, absolute worst.

SPF

I have a little secret. I visit TONS of other people's blogs. I happen upon them in the most random ways and I think they make me feel more in touch with the mainland world. One of the blogs I visit hosts a little event called Stuff Portrait Fridays where she posts a theme each week and encourages you to post pictures of of your stuff and share it with others. As much as I hate to admit I'm deep in the blog world, I think this is a cool way to share little bits of our (read: my) Hawaii life.

This week's SFP was in honor of breast cancer awareness month and requested pictures of:
1. Your potholders
2. Your melons or pumpkins
3. Something pink

Soooo....

1. That's our ONE potholder. I got it at Wal-Mart. It's actually pretty cool. It's hanging on a screw because our landlord put a new stove in but it's too wide so you can't open the oven door with the doorknobs on. So we had to take them off. Tacky. And I sometimes snag my clothes on them.

2. These are our pumpkins. I just got them. They made me feel happy and festive. I'm loving the idea of Halloween in our own place. I am trying very hard to resist getting Halloween decor for the house. I can only resist because I don't want to have to pack more than I have to when we do move back to the mainland.

3. Something pink are the straps on my new kick-ass Crocs slippers. They rock. And they are so obnoxious!
