Lanai is wonderful. There really isn't much to do there but we spent every minute of the weekend on an adventure. We stayed at the very sweet and nice Hotel Lanai which comes with our highest recommendations. And we rented a 4x4 Jeep! Laura and I picked it out in blue and did the initial exploring and off-roading together.
Lanai has less than 3,000 residents, one gas station, no stop lights, and a whole bunch of red dirt roads leading to remote places. We spent our days bumping around on the roads, exploring new scenery and relaxing on the beach a bit. And our evenings chatting over good dinners and drinks. Lanai looks and feels nothing like anywhere else in Hawaii. It was a perfect break and a true getaway.
As for my birthday in Lanai, it was perfect. I spent the day feeling very relaxed and excited for the adventure ahead of us. If I can carry that into my 30's, I think I'll be set.
