I spent this past weekend in Hilo with my Mom and my grandmother who is recovering from a fall. A good but not easy weekend with lots of lessons.
1. Comfort in the familiarity of your grandparents' house. I didn't grow up near my grandparents but on both sides of my family they always lived in the same house. I love how well I know their houses.
2. Treasures in every drawer and every closet. Grandparents have a long time to collect things! And their things are always so much more interesting than mine or my parents.
3. Family photos. I am a sucker for memories. I just adore old family photos.
4. Compassion.
5. Shared interests. I have always believed I inherited interests from my grandmothers. Inventive craftiness from one side, love of fall fashion from the other. Thankfully I did not inherit their smoking habit!
