Sorry for the picture overload. I couldn't resist and had to include them all to tell the story.
We had a great time in Maui. We just got a peek at the island so have decided we need at least two trips in the near future to see most of it.
We stayed in Wailea (at the Marriott, a great work perk - free room) which is a total resort place. Not much to do there but stay at a nice place and visit a nice beach. Beautiful white sand beaches. Luckily, we got a car so could step out to see other parts of the island. And yes, my second convertible of the week. We upgraded to a smurf-blue convertible PT Cruiser. Fun!
Saturday morning we did the Wailea beach walk and stopped to frolick in the ocean. We grabbed lunch and met a waiter who told us "Molokini is toast." We opted not to do Molokini and planned for a trip to Lahaina instead.
Lahaina is an old whaling town and now caters to tourists and wealthy art collectors. It was DAMN hot and I don't recommend you visit before 5pm in the summer. We sweated it out for a nice dinner sunset (pictured above) and had the best time at the vintage poster store where they spent over an hour chatting with us even though it was crystal clear we weren't about to lay down $1200 for an oversized poster no matter how old it is! For everyone who visits Lahaina, please stop by the poster store to say to the guys.
On Sunday we got up early to snorkel at the waiter-recommended Ahihi Reserve. Awesome! Not the most fish we've ever seen or clearest water but the most impressive coral I've ever seen and an incredibly natural setting. AND, we saw a LOBSTER! A big bully of a lobster, at least 2 feet long and somehow very beautiful. We don't know anyone who's ever seen a lobster when snorkeling so we feel very, very lucky.
After snorkeling we drove to Kihei for a yummy breakfast and then spent the most of the rest of the day laying under an umbrella at Wailea Beach and playing in the waves like little kids.
Can't wait to visit again in October for Sara and Kent's wedding. I can't imagine anything better than Maui with the Colorado group!
Pic #1: Us enjoying a mid-day drink and the fabulous view at Kimo's in Lahaina.
Pics #2 and #3: Cruisin' in the Cruiser. And getting a nice sunburn in the process.
Pic #4: Bryan cooling off in the sprinklers at the city park in Lahaina. All fun and games until two punks drove by to say "Hey buddy, that's recycled sewage water." Sort of hard to believe but it ruined the fun anyway.
Pic #5: The view from our lanai at the Marriott. I promise you, it was really that beautiful.
