Where I Live...

I am tad embarrassed to admit this but I have a favorite Hawaiian song. It's called "Hawaiian Lullaby" and it's been re-recorded as part of a local ad campaign for a Hawaii bank. And I love it. I think it's just beautiful. The lyrics are "Where I live there are rainbows..." You can listen the original (but not the best, in my opinion) version here.

Anyhow, it got me thinking of all the unique things about 'where I live'. About all the things we take for granted after living in Hawaii for two and half years, and all the things that seem normal but really aren't. So I thought I'd start my own little feature here called Where I Live.

To kick it off, there really are rainbows. All the time, everywhere. I ooh and aww just about every time I see one. And I see them a lot. I'd estimate about one every 10 days or so. I know that when we leave Hawaii I will be sad not to see such pretty colors in the sky. Here's one such rainbow I spotted on my commute home sometime in the last few weeks. You would laugh to see how many picture of rainbows I actually take!

Who do you think does the best version - I'd like to add it to my ipod.

That's the only recording I could really find. My favorite is from the First Hawaiian Bank campaign, which of course we cannot download.
