Not Like the Others...

This morning I flew to Kauai for a photoshoot with two of my co-workers and our photography team. We all checked in together and went through security line together. The ID-checker-guy said to our Japanese photo assistant "hey man, howz it?", and to our white (orginally from LA but now tan and a surfer) photographer "hey man", and to my Philipino co-worker "howz it goin?" And to me, "hello, good morning." Clearly, despite my Hawaii ID, I am not quite local.

Later in the day some tourists at the hotel stopped me to ask if the models and crew were all local to the island. I explained that they were from Oahu and that some of us worked at an ad agency in Honolulu. They nodded along and looked at me in complete surprise "You're from Honolulu?" Yes, I replied. They seemed to doubt it.

12/1 Update: Last night our stylist turned to me, "Hey Jenni, are you from the mainland or something?" Classic.

I did not have my bracelet on. That silly thing sets off the security alarm! But you're right, I should have it on my wrist all the time.
