Two Months Ago

May 24th 2009

Something Old
I had bought antique hankies for all of the key ladies of our wedding. I love the idea that it'd been clutched by women of past generations. I chose my favorite for myself and asked our wedding coordinator to give it to Bryan to hold in case I got teary during the ceremony. Of course, I hadn't briefed him on this so he didn't know what to do with it. He actually tucked it into his outside coat pocket and it showed all through the ceremony. Not the look I was going for but you can't plan everything. And I didn't get teary anyway. I was way, way too happy and confident to have any tearful emotions that day.

Something New
Nothing like new shoes to make you stand tall. Unfortunately these hurt bad. Ugh. Lucky I also had new earrings that are gorgeous and don't hurt a bit!

Something Borrowed
My aunt Janie lent me her ring as my something borrowed. The center stone was from my grandmother's wedding ring. And before she wore it, it was my great-grandmother's. The diamond has now been on the finger of four generations of James women. I can't imagine anything more fitting for the day I proudly walked as a James and added one more member to our crazy clan.

Unfortunately, none of the other James (aside from my brother and parents) were able to make it to the wedding. It was hard to think of hosting such an important event with a symbolic half of my family not in attendance. The presence of this ring on my right hand made me feel more connected to those that weren't there.

Something Blue
A friend of mine had gifted me blue undies that had 'I DO" in rhinestones. They were comfy and cute but not photography-appropriate. I also had this tag made for my dress celebrating my "Miss" name and the date it all changed. I haven't fully decided what to do with my dress yet. It seems a little silly to keep it for the next 30 years on the off chance my maybe-daughter would like to wear it. And yet, it also seems silly to sell it for a few hundred bucks. But if I do hold on to it for my daughter, granddaughter or favorite girl, I like that it will clearly identify the who wore the dress on May 24th 2009... ME!
