Bookends of Weekends

On Monday we flew back from a family celebration of our marriage in Idaho. Tomorrow we fly to Kauai to kayak the Napali Coast. This is such an excellent summary of our lives.

We are totally pulled between two places. Our roots are on the mainland (hell, our heart is in San Francisco, right?), but our "now" is in Hawaii. In Idaho we relaxed, caught up with Bryan's family and ate yummy food that was put in front of us. In Kauai will paddle to exhaustion for two days straight, hang out with exciting buddies, and eat dried packaged food.

I am so incredibly thankful that we have the resources to bridge these two worlds, and the love coming from both of them. But to be honest, sometimes it makes me feel lost - as if I was floating in the middle of the ocean, which of course I am.

I'm working hard on making the effort to enjoy every element of our crazy lives right now. From lake-floating to kayak-paddling. From the mellow to the crazy exciting*.

*Oh yeah, there's a hurricane coming our way as we make this 17 mile trek in the open ocean!
