Yes? No? Yes.No. Yes!

Right. So.... I changed my mind.

Whereas once I declared that I couldn't and wouldn't do the Na Pali hike, now I am going to. It's a whole long story that doesn't need to be told and it ends with me debating which form of water purification is best for 72 hours of beyond-civilization.

Next Monday morning, bright and early I will begin an 11-mile hike that will take me to the secluded Kalau beach, complete with a waterfall. I'll be embarking with a small group of paddling girls including two of my favorite Hawaii friends. I hope to enjoy every step, apply enough sunscreen, keep my good temper, and make it there with no injuries greater than a bruise or a blister. We'll camp for two nights on the beach and then turn around and hike the 11 miles back.

I have never, ever hiked with more than a light backpack on my back. I have never had the desire to camp when the car was more than a short walk away. This will be a true adventure for me and I think it will be one of my best.
