Hawaii has a unique language style that is not easily adapted. Even more than our appearance, it's the way we speak that really says we're not from here. However...
Yesterday Bryan used the word "pau" naturally in a sentence.
Today a three year old called me "Auntie."
With two tiny words, we're really here.

Pau means "done" or "finished." It was actually one of my first words but I don't even use it regularly. Go Bryan!
"Auntie" is used commonly for any woman who is older. It's a familiar way of saying "hey lady" and it means even more when it's not family you're addressing. In this case, it was from a sweet little girl I was playing with at a garden party. Made my heart melt.
