Gay Karaoke, A True Adventure

Last week my friend Kate was in town for one last hur-rah before she headed back home to Denver (all you Denverites, one very cool girl is coming to your city). We met for wine and food at our favorite place. Around nine I looked at the time and thought "ooh, I'm tired, I should head home." Around 10 I actually said "I might take off soon." Closer to 11 I decided to join the group for Gay Karaoke. Because... well, how could I not?

Gay Karaoke is Kate's phrase to describe the delightful experience of visiting a teeny tiny gay bar in Waikiki and belting it out to karaoke on their TV screens.

We were five girls and one guy. None gay. None can really sing.

We walked in, ordered up our songs and started belting it out in true white-girl karaoke form. When girls go to sing karaoke, it usually involves lots of beer and yelling the words to the songs. Apparently, when gay men go to sing karaoke, it is because they are extremely talented and are warming up for the next American Idol audition. These guys could sing!! We were only a hit because we were cute and my friend Jodi kept requesting songs like "I'm too sexy".

We had an absolutely blast. Laughing, singing, yelling.

I finally made it home at 2am.

Yup - white-girl karaoke is the best - I can't sing so I know!
