After we wrapped up our pre-ceremony photos and I snuck off to hide as the guests were seated, my dad delivered my wedding gift for Bryan. It took me almost no time to decide what to give him. I wanted something he could have forever, and would show that I truly loved him for who he is. I gave him an acoustic guitar. I think he was very touched, a bit overwhelmed, and surprised (he'd somehow missed the fact that brides and grooms often give each other gifts).
Later, after the ceremony, I surprised him again with my hula dance.
I thought I was so sneaky, and so full of surprises! The evening went on and everything developed just as I had planned. After dinner we cut our cake. After that, I turned to Bryan and said "now we do our first dance." He faltered a bit, I looked around, and my brother announced that I was in for my surprise.

My dad pulled up a chair to the microphone with the guitar I had just gifted Bryan.
I remember being a bit shocked, and a bit nervous that things weren't going along my schedule.

My dad announced that years ago I had asked him to write me a song. And then he launched into a song he wrote just for me. You'd have to ask him the title and for the exact words. But I can tell you it was very touching and very thoughtful - telling the story of watching me being young, growing up, asking for advice, and falling in love. And it brought the crowd to happy tears.

Honestly, I was dazed.
It didn't sink in for days, possibly until I saw these pictures. I feel incredibly lucky and very loved.

I tried to take it all in, he wrapped up the song. And then we hugged and told him how awesome it was.

I'm gonna try not to sound like too much of a sap here. It was crazy touching and very sweet. Bryan was in on the surprise but still blown away. Bryan claims his guitar is one of the most meaningful things he has. And he recently played it on stage to perform his own music.
I am very lucky.

I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. And I'd love to hear the song or at least see the lyrics. :)
I hope someone videotaped that!! What an amazing moment between the two of you. I cried reading this!
I got teary too and I was in on the whole thing! Dad is working on recording the song....stay tuned.
Thanks guys, it was even more awesome than I described. The only place the song exists is on our wedding video. If I can figure out how to upload a small section of the video, I'll share it.

Thank you for remembering this with so much feeling.
As Mom will tell you I worked for months on that song and I was a bit nervous at first but as soon as I started the song I felt very calm. I'm glad Bryan and I were able to pull off a surprise for you.
Love you honey
Dad
