We flew Japan Airlines which was a total treat. Our first flight took us from Honolulu to Narita. We were delighted to find the flight pretty empty and immediately grabbed a whole row for each of us. We spent the next 8 hours enjoying the food, the inflight personal entertainment, and the space to nap. Bryan couldn't resist the free beer and indulged even though it was 9am...

Once we landed we did a little "ohmygod, we're in Japan!" and then quickly realized a four hour layover is tedious not matter which airport you're in. We grabbed lunch - noodles and beer, and then giggled at all the mysterious Japanese items in the gift shop.

Then we were back on plane again, this time to you final destination in Bali! By some dumb luck we were upgraded to business class which was an absolute dream. Bryan once again enjoyed the free beer and I settled in for a nap.

More than seven hours later we arrived in Bali at midnight. We moved fairly quickly through customs, got sprayed down with purell for fear of swine flu, and then got taken for $40. It's a story that is too painful to retell but it has to two with jerky people taking advantage of us and my exhaustion and stupidity. It was a rooky traveler move and while it put us on edge, it also made us tougher.
And then we took a crazy ride through the pitch black for 45 minutes on Balinese roads to our lovely, lovely hotel.
